OUR HERITAGE
In 1886, warring Yoruba kingdoms laid down arms at Imesi-Ile
and signed one of Africa's most significant peace treaties. That single act of
reconciliation ended one of the longest civil conflicts in Yoruba history.
Today, we exist to ensure that story is never forgotten.
The Kiriji Heritage Conservation Foundation is a cultural, historical, and developmental organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Kiriji War and the 1886 peace treaty that reunited the Yoruba people. We are transforming that history into a living landscape for peace dialogue, heritage tourism, cultural exchange, and sustainable development.
The vision of this group is the existing Kiriji Memorial as the epic city: Emerging urban vibrancy guided by outstanding cultural, political, social, & economic history.
We are building a destination that honors the past while inspiring generations to come.

Join us as we commemorate 140 Years of Peace, Unity and Yoruba Heritage: Reflecting on the Legacy of the Kiriji Peace Treaty. Join traditional rulers, historians, diplomats, and diaspora leaders including Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, and Chief Gani Adams, for a symposium reflecting on the legacy of the Kiriji Peace Treaty.

PROPOSED KIRIJI CITY PARK
The proposed Kiriji Peace Treaty Park is envisioned as a heritage and cultural landscape dedicated to preserving and interpreting the legacy of the Kiriji Peace Treaty, which brought an end to the Kiriji War; the longest civil conflict in Yoruba history.
Conceived as a candidate for recognition by UNESCO, the park will integrate memorial architecture, interpretive museums, research and documentation centers, and immersive cultural spaces that highlight indigenous conflict resolution systems, diplomacy, and inter-kingdom relations.
Beyond preservation, the park is designed as a living space for education, tourism, and cultural exchange — welcoming scholars, traditional rulers, and visitors from across the Yoruba world and the African diaspora.
